Restaurants new head chef is looking to put Coventry on the food map

THE LOFT restaurant is intending to put Coventry on the food map as it celebrates its first birthday.

The restaurant opened on the first floor of the Rialto Plaza last May.

Coventry did not have a single entrant in 2022’s AA Restaurant Guide and the Loft’s new head chef Sam Barnett wants to transform his into a modern fine dining establishment in a bid to change that.

Sam has previously worked as sous chef to Giles Thompson, who was formerly executive chef at The Ritz London.

He will work alongside The Loft’s operations director Stephen Nash, who has spent 24 years in the industry – including being the official chef for the European Ryder Cup team.

The pair have been working to create a la carte and tasting menus featuring the best local produce.

The six-course taster menu will launch today, and the pair also offer a Sunday lunch using ingredients sourced from Coventry.

Sam said: “I’m excited to bring my skill and knowledge of cuisine to The Loft – it has the potential to be the best restaurant in Coventry.

“We aim to bring top quality food and service to Coventry and we are hoping food lovers across the Midlands will give us a try.”

Stephen added: “ As a former Cov lad it is important to me that we revolutionise the city’s gastro-scene.

“As Coventry continues its City of Culture celebrations into 2022, the buzz everywhere is amazing.

“It seems insane that although Coventry has been completely transformed over recent years, the city doesn’t have a single AA Rosette and we aim to change that.”
