Residents urged to 'Be Clear On Cancer' as roadshow hits Coventry next weekend

A NEW ‘Be Clear On Cancer’ roadshow will visit Lower Precinct next weekend to encourage people to visit their GP.

The roadshow will be on show from 9am until 5.30pm on Friday, March 17, and Saturday, March 18, as part of a wider campaign launched by Public Health England across the East and West Midlands.

In the West Midlands, around 30,500 people are diagnosed with cancer each year – with around 1,520 diagnoses in Coventry.

Volunteers will encourage anyone suffering from symptoms such as persistent diarrhoea, bloating or discomfort in the tummy area to see their doctor.

These problems can be a sign of a number of different cancers, such as bowel, ovarian or pancreatic.

Dr Lola Abudu, director of health and wellbeing for Public Health England West Midlands, said: “It’s a great opportunity for residents to get information from the team as it’s important to know about these symptoms and to see your GP if you have any of them.

“You’re not wasting anyone’s time by getting symptoms checked out.

“It’s probably nothing serious – but if it is cancer, finding it early makes it more treatable.

“The Be Clear on Cancer roadshow events are a fantastic opportunity for people to speak to the team and find out more.”

A survery carried out by Public Health England revealed many over 50s in the midlands would be worried about wasting their doctor’s time if they displayed signs of any symptoms for three weeks or more.

The Be Clear On Cancer roadshow team will encourage people who may be experiencing persistent tummy troubles to see their GP and explain that their doctor will want to see them.
