PEOPLE came together at Coventry Council House on Tuesday to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The event featured art and crafts, a historical tour of Coventry’s heritage, live music, poetry, yoga and other activities.
A talk and discussion on the International Women’s Day 2022 theme #BreakTheBias was held in the main council chamber with Chancellor of Coventry University, Dr Margaret Casely-Hayford CBE, the headline speaker.
Her presentation was followed by a short discussion and questions and answers with a panel of influential women.
Among them were Dr June McNicholas, the current Lady Mayoress of Coventry, and Pru Porretta, the city’s modern-day Lady Godiva.
In the hospitality suite afterwards, the Senze Nome Polish Choir performed music from different periods and genres, led by Joanna Kunda, and the Godiva Sisters from around the world also staged a special musical item.
As part of National Women’s Month, people can also help decorate six pink trees by adding leaves to the branches with names and possibly photographs of women special to them.
They can be found at Coventry City Council House, the Cathedral, the Methodist Central Hall, West Orchards Shopping Centre, Metropolis restaurant and Foleshill Library.
