Pupils at Coventry's Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School get creative designing basketball kits

STUDENTS at Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School were given an insight into the fashion world after collaborating to design their school’s own basketball kit.

The school has been working with the apparel and team-wear brand Stickz and Stonez to create a strip to represent the school’s core values.

During a session with the joint brand founder Alex Begyinah, Year Seven students were tasked with creating designs for the new home, away and third kits.

Alex also ensured each kit featured a number from a legendary basketball player and included branding from Guardian Ballers, a Coventry and Warwickshire service which delivers basketball sessions and encourages students to openly talk about mental health.

At the ‘kit unveiling’ assembly, Alex gave the pupils an inspirational talk about how he and his business partner Kieran Jones had a passion for basketball and American fashion which they combined to create their business.

Alex said: “This was Stickz and Stonez’ first time delivering sessions within a school, and all of the students were incredibly engaged and really keen to find out more about fashion design and entrepreneurship.

“It was also excellent to host an assembly to tell everyone a bit more about my story.

“I hope I was not only able to give the students an insight into launching and running a fashion brand, but also how there are a number of ways your passions can be incorporated into future career paths.”
