Police probe after gunmen open fire on family home in Coventry in 'wrong house' attack

POLICE are probing a shooting in Swan Lane in Coventry where it is believed the wrong home was targeted by gunmen.

Two men got out of a small black hatchback car around 12.15am on Monday and opened fire at a family home using what police believe were shotguns before driving off.

The front door was damaged during the incident but no one was injured.

CCTV has been seized for examination and police are investigating in a bid to identify the vehicle and those involved.

Supt Ronan Tyrer said officers believed the gunmen had targeted the wrong address.

“What’s happened is totally outrageous, to discharge a firearm in a public street in a residential area is hugely reckless and could have fatal consequences.

“This is a family address and clearly they are shocked at what’s happened.

“These men do not deserve protection, they’ve shot at the home of an innocent family, and we want to take a stance with the community to show it won’t be tolerated.”

Police are urging witnesses or anyone who lives in the area or was driving through at the time to check CCTV, doorbell or dash cam footage they may have captured and call officers on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if they have information to help.
