POLICE dog Captain helped get two suspect burglars into custody.

Traffic officers received information to suggest a car linked to burglaries was driving around Coventry in the early hours of Tuesday morning (August 17).

Following a short pursuit the car went off road in Castle Bromwich and the occupants ran off.

The officers arrested a 33-year-old man and Captain was brought in to find the other.

Within minutes a 26-year-old man was sniffed out. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and car theft.

In another incident in the early hours of Monday morning, officers received a call to say two men had been attacked with a glass bottle in Solihull and that the attacker had ran off.

Minutes later a 29-year-old man was arrested, and later charged thanks to Captain.

PC Marcus Cottrell, Captain’s handler, said: “Captain is a total hero. I’m very proud to work alongside him.”

Both men were later released on police bail pending further investigation.

Police said ‘Captain had really earned his belly rubs this week’
