Police dispersal powers introduced in Coventry city centre following reports of antisocial behaviour

POLICE have introduced special powers in Coventry city centre today (Friday February 14) following reports of organised antisocial behaviour.

A Section 35 dispersal order is in place, allowing police to move on people they believe are contributing to antisocial behaviour or crime.

The powers will be in place until Sunday morning at 11am.

The order was introduced following reports of organised antisocial behaviour and violence in and around Coventry city centre.

Insp Maria Perrin from Coventry local police said: “We won’t tolerate any kind of antisocial behaviour or violence in the city centre, and we have put the Section 35 dispersal in place to move anyone on who we believe may be causing problems.

“This dispersal order will be in place over the weekend until Sunday morning. We will have extra officers, partners, and security teams in the area over the weekend to offer reassurance.”
