PROPOSALS for a new holiday park in Meriden have been recommended for refusal by planners.
Applicant Mr Cummings wants to to build 12 ”holiday chalets’ around a new pond on land to the north of Kennel Lodge on Lodge Green Lane.
It would be sited on a large pasture close to mature woodlands.
Solihull planning committee will meet on February 26 to discuss the application, but planning officers have recommended they refuse the chalets due to the site being an ‘inappropriate’ development’ in the green belt.
Planners say they received 123 signature petition saying the holiday park would be harmful to the residential amenity of nearby neighbours, harmful to wildlife and would contribute too much traffic to narrow country lanes.
The land is next to the Eaves Green caravan park, which has space for 70 mobile homes.
Agents for the applicants say the holiday lodges are “simple, contemporary oak clad timber framed units with over hanging flat roofs and simple window openings. The light weight units would be mounted on eight concrete pads each to minimise the construction footprint and are set out around the lake.”
Chalets would have sedum roofs to prevent flooding and solar panels would power them.
The planning team adds that increased traffic would make the field an ‘unsustainable location’.
