ORGANISERS of the Coventry City Former Players’ Association Golf Day have been forced to abandon this year’s event.
The original staging of the event was due to take place on Thursday, June 8, but poor weather in the days building up to the event left ground staff at Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club with no option but to close the course so waterlogged areas could be cleared.
A provisional date was then set for Thursday, June 22.
However members of the Former Players’ Association have been forced to abandon the event as many of those who were scheduled to play are unable to attend the revised date due to prior commitments.
Frank Pritchard, of the Coventry City’s Former Players’ Association, said: “Sadly teams have dropped out and they cannot be replaced.
“It is a shame the weather has got the better of the event as so often we get very lucky.
“We’re already looking forward to our tenth anniversary golf day in early June next year where we hope to announce further details in the future.”
A record number of teams were due to take to the course this year, a full refund will be offered to all players.
