ONE MAN has died and another has been seriously injured in a car crash in Coventry in the early hours of this morning.
It happened at 3.45am when the BMW 1 Series the pair were in hit a lamp post at the junction of Jobs Lane and Jardine Crescent and overturned.
Both the injured men received specialist trauma care at the scene before being taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
A man from the car, aged in his 20s, died in hospital after nothing could be done to save him. The second man from the vehicle, also in his 20s, is in a serious condition in hospital.
A section of Jardine Crescent has been cordoned off while enquiries are carried out.
A road closure is expected to remain in place between Bushbery Avenue and Job’s Lane until later this afternoon.
Det Sgt Paul Hughes, from West Midlands Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “A man has tragically died and our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time.
“A second man remains in hospital with serious injuries and we can only hope he will be able to pull through and recover.
“Our enquiries are at an early stage but currently don’t believe anyone else was involved.
“However, we really need to hear from anyone with information which can assist our enquiries.”
Coventry Police are keen to establish what happened and are currently in the process of collecting CCTV as part of officers’ investigation.
They have also urged witnesses, anyone with information or dash cam footage, or information to get in touch via Live Chat at www.west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or by calling 101 anytime.
