NO action will be taken after a stabbing in Coventry left a man in a critical condition – because his friend agreed it was an accident.

As we reported yesterday, a man, 37, was arrested on suspicion of wounding after a stabbing on Sunday (March 17).

But a West Midlands Police spokesperson said today: “The victim and suspect – who are long-standing friends – were spoken to over the incident and both have independently said this was an accident and there was no intention to cause injury.

“The victim does not wish to press charges and the man has been released without charge.”

A further update from police said: “The victims injuries are not life-threatening.”

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said on Monday: “Police are investigating after a man was stabbed at a property in Sedgemoor Road in the Whitley area of Coventry just before 5.30pm yesterday (Sunday, March 17).

“The 36-year-old was taken to hospital with a serious injury to his chest, where he remains in a critical condition today (Monday, March 18).

“A 37-year-old man, who is known to the victim, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of wounding and remains in police custody.”

Anyone with information should contact police via Live Chat at west-midlands.police.uk between 8am and midnight or call 101 anytime. Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111. Quote log number 1815 of March 17.
