New outdoor sports facility opened at Holbrooks Park

A NEW outdoor sports facility has been opened at Holbrooks Park.

The MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area) was completed at the park recently – refurbishing an existing basketball facility.

The improvements also include a new footpath, four benches and other maintenance work.

Coventry City Council says the games area is proving to be popular for a range of age groups who want to play/practice netball, basketball and football.

And the new benches and a footpath provide a defined route making access into the park easier for all members of the community, the council claims.

Holdbrooks councillor Joe Clifford said he is sure improvements will be welcomed by the whole community.

He said: “The new facilities are much needed and will hopefully encourage more people to take advantage of what the park has to offer. It is important that all age groups are able to enjoy the park and these changes should make a big difference for local people.”

Coun Pervez Akhtar, deputy cabinet member for policing and equalities, said the games area was an important addition.

“Holbrooks Park is a really popular venue, and I know that the improvements will be warmly welcomed by the community – especially at the start of the school holidays,” he said.

A new footpath from the Beake Avenue entrance to the park has been installed, the car park has been resurfaced and a new multi-use game area will be created for visitors to enjoy.

Coun Akhtar added: “I use the park regularly, it feels more accessible, and will prove popular at the start of the school holidays.”

K-Barriers have been added at the park entrances to prevent vehicles, including motorbikes, from entering the park but will still enable access for wheelchairs, bicycles, mobility scooters and pushchairs.
