New accessible path creates new circular walk route at Coombe Abbey Park

A NEW circular route formed from an accessible path has been created at Coombe Abbey Park.

The 170m long, 2.5m wide bound gravel path has been laid on Wrautums Field in Coombe Abbey Park, between Go Ape and the Climbing Forest, to improve the visitor experience for everyone enjoying the park. The path links to other accessible routes to form a circular walk.

Coun Abdul Khan, Coventry City Council’s deputy leader and Cabinet Member for parks, said: “This new path is a fantastic addition to Coombe Abbey Park to ensure that as many people as possible can access the park and all it has to offer.

“The before and after of the area is incredible – our team has followed the route that lots of people were trying to use to access different areas of the park and created what’s now a fantastic circular route for visitors to enjoy.”

Acid grassland habitats, home to a wealth of wildlife and plants, will be protected by the new path by helping to prevent damage caused by large numbers of people trying to cross the field.

The path’s route follows informal desire lines, which often became slippery and dangerous in winter, so that the route is passable in all weather conditions.

Creation of the path was funded by Coventry City Council’s City of Culture readiness fund.
