A NATIONAL accolade for quality has been awarded to a Coventry academy for its work in improving the well-being, resilience and self-esteem of its pupils.

The Quality Mark Award has been handed to Whittle Academy for the school’s continued work to improve reading, writing and maths – particularly those with special educational needs or disabilities.

The award has been developed by leading educational charity Achievement for all (AfA), which offers support programmes to schools and settings to help them improve outcomes in the lowest achieving 20 per cent.

Whittle Academy has been working in partnership with AfA since 2014 – and the charity now works with parents and carers on children’s targets as part of the AfA framework.

Eileen Leech, chair of governors at Whittle Academy, said: “Many congratulations on a well-deserved achievement for the school.

“My heartfelt thanks for all the hard work and effort you all put in to educating Whittle’s children.”

Sue Burrows, regional lead at Achievement for All, said: “We are thrilled to present Whittle Academy with this much deserved award.

“The school has successfully utilised AfA’s parental engagement module to support vulnerable children and their families.

“It is evident that the children and families are at the heart of all that the school does.”
