The Danny Ansell Band

Well this is something of a turn up, one of Coventry’s hardest working singer songwriters, a man who has for the best part stood alone on the stage since leaving his band Fineline over seven years ago.

It’s a perfect fit, a clever move if you will, it’s a double whammy. You still get that superb voice and those amazing songs, but at the same time it’s something new and fresh and musically compelling with the bonus of Steve Madden’s amazing guitar playing.

So I asked Danny how the ‘band’ come about. He replied. “A few months ago I went to see an old friend and producer Roger Greasby about the possibility of recording my song Lemonade Wage.

Roger who is the owner and producer at Born in a Barn Studios in Ansty has always been a huge fan of the song so we began to record acoustic guitar, vocals and strings there and then. Roger, who himself is a drummer along with excellent bass player Patrick Beard recorded the drums and bass, and my cousin and Coventry musician Steve Madden put down lead guitar and it quickly became apparent we had something special.

“We began to play live together every possible chance we had in the studio. After some intense live rehearsing we performed our first live gig on Saturday 25/5/19 at The Hub in Coventry University where the songs went down a storm and all the hard work very much paid off .

“We’ve since recorded six more songs and will be releasing an album of my songs in the summer of 2019. The album will consist of some live favourites , some old songs totally re-recorded and some of the new songs i have written and currently working on in the studio . After performing live for near 18 years and releasing four albums with Glasslip records as a solo artist over the last sevenyears I definitely felt like the time was right to be in a band again!!”

If the taster track and video are anything to go by, we are all in for a treat, the dynamic of the band’s energy combined with Danny’s amazing vocals gives the impression of something new, while remaining familiar and that’s not an easy feat to pull off. Councillor Gary Crookes

I, like many Coventry people, was shocked on hearing of the passing of former Lord Mayor councillor Gary Crookes.

As a Lord Mayor, he made things happen in this city. As a man he was an honourable human bein,g kind and supportive.

He was Lord Mayor when I was made ‘Citizen of The Month’ in 2014.

His personal legacy for The Coventry Music Museum is our ‘Wall of Hits’ that is a major part of the museum. The funding came from Gary via Heart Of England and it was officially opened by himself and his wife Shirley in 2014.

He really will be missed.
