Junior NRB signs to RCA

If you have ever listened to the compilation CD ‘Alternative Sounds 3’, you may have spotted a track entitled ‘Sensei’ by Junior NRB, giving the rap side of what was (and indeed is) going on locally.

He has just announced that he has signed to the major record label RCA.

The man behind the name is Jordan Bowes and, if the name Bowes sounds familiar, well it’s because Jordan’s dad is none other than Martin Bowes creator of the Coventry Fanzine Alternative Sounds and front man to the legendary band ATTRITION.

So, great to see the legacy continue. Although, musically speaking, they are at opposite ends of the spectrum, with dad the master of dark industrial electronica and son very much a rap music artist.

I caught up with Jordan a put some questions to him.

PC: “Congratulations for signing with RCA, can I ask if your dad has influenced you at all?”

Junior: “Thank you, I wouldn’t say my dad influenced me but I would say he did help me to start off and made it easier because I already understood basics about music from him.”

PC: “How long have you been performing and how did the RCA deal come about?”

Junior: ” I made my first song two

years ago, January 2018, and have been consistent since then after my song ‘Canada Goose’ started to blow up (it now has over 1.6 million views on YouTube).  I was approached via Instagram by people from Sony records, after being approached by three different labels. I eventually signed with RCA.”

PC: “Does it feel right now?”

Junior: “It feels good to know my music is being appreciated but I am also looking forward to being independent after the deal is over. Because I want to own the rights to my future music.”

PC: “Do you call yourself a rap artist?”

Jordan: “I would call myself a rap artist but I take influence from all music genres to create my music. Meaning, it’s not just your everyday gangster rap.”

Personally I think it’s great to see yet another Coventry artist sign to a major label (Coventry bands The Primitives had many hits on RCA and Coventry Prog Rock band Indian Summer were signed to the Neon part of RCA).

So let’s hope that Junior NRB too has a long and brilliant musically career.

Rammstein

The Rammstein show planned to take place at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry on 20th June 2020 has been rescheduled to 19th June 2021. Tickets will automatically carry over to the rescheduled date. I was so looking forward to seeing this amazingly outlandish German band in the summer, but the curse of Covid-19 continues. Here’s to next year.
