A MAN threatened staff with a hammer during a terrifying attempted robbery at Dawlish News in Coventry.

Police are investigating the alleged incident at the newsagents on Dawlish Drive, Stivichall, in which courageous staff managed to fight off the attacker.

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “The suspect walked in to the store just before 10pm on April 23, and threatened staff with a hammer.

“The staff managed to fight him off and he fled empty handed, leaving a hammer and pushbike at the scene.

“Investigators are trying to find out whether the bike is stolen, or belongs to the suspect.

“If you recognise this bike or have any information please contact West Midlands Police via Live Chat at from 8am – midnight or call 101 anytime.

“Please quote crime number 20CV/97428H/19.”
