A MAN has been charged with dangerous driving after a woman was hit by a car in Abbey Road, Coventry, around 10.30pm on Sunday.

The woman in her 20s suffered serious leg injuries and was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital.

Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police attended and a driver – a man in his 40s – was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

It is also believed a pet dog was killed in the collision.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it treated two pedestrians who were both taken to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.

Andrew Phelan, aged 48, of Lane Green Road, Codsall, Wolverhampton, has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to produce a specimen of breath, and using a car without insurance and without a licence.

Bail was refused and he was remanded in custody.

He was due to appear at Coventry Magistrates Court today.
