Man asking for lift to strip club among ridiculous 999 calls

WEST MIDLANDS POLICE has tweeted a string of ridiculous calls which its 999 emergency team has received.

While the police emergency line is there to protect society, there are instances when people misuse it – as a result, the police are unable to focus their resources on solving crimes and keeping streets safe.

One incident included a man, who laughed at the operator, asking for a lift to a strip club.

Another tweet said: “999 call from a female reporting a cash machine had swallowed her debit card. Bank staff had already advised her not to ring.”

WMP also tweeted a call reporting a group of people having a picnic in the park – they added: “Please use us only for genuine emergencies.”

The tweets continued to reveal shocking and absurd calls from members of the community.

One clueless male called the team to tell them a department store was refusing to refund him.

WMP released the audio of the call. They said: “This is not an appropriate use of the police emergency line.”

Police are urging people to think before they dial 999.

To make a non-emergency call, call 101.
