A LOCAL fundraiser has issued a heartfelt message of thanks to all that raised funds for Macmillan Cancer Support last year.

Mandy Spraggett, Macmillan fundraising manager in Coventry, said 2015 saw Macmillan commit over £784,000 in Warwickshire – helping to support over 22,000 people living with cancer across the county.

The money raised means there are now 60 Macmillan professionals working in Coventry and Warwickshire.

Mandy said: “I want to say a personal thank you to everyone who held their own events to raise money for Macmillan throughout 2015.

“To those that hosted coffee mornings, braved the shave, went sober for October or put a pound in the collection box – I want to thank you all.

“Our ambition is to reach and improve the lives of everyone living with cancer.

“By 2030, the number of people living with the disease will have double, so it’s a huge task to support each and every one of those in some way.”

One of the latest additions to the Macmillan team is Sandeep Chahal, a clinical nurse specialist in cancers of the female reproductive system at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust.

Sandeep said: “It’s my role to provide information, advice and support to women being investigated for, or diagnosed with, a gynaecological cancer.

“I aim to provide my patients and their carers with continuous support and specialist care planning.

“My patients are the foundation of my enthusiasm and drive to deliver a service that they know they are the centre of and one I am proud of.

“The best part of this job is when I know I have got the basics right and patients can identify me as their go-to specialist nurse for advice and support.

“Macmillan health care professionals have always inspired me because they want to deliver only the best.”
