Machete wielding teenagers arrested in Coventry thanks to brave police dogs

A GROUP of teenagers wielding machetes were arrested with the help of two West Midlands Police dogs.

Police were called to reports of four men carrying weapons in Leyburn Close at about 1.30pm on Sunday (January 17).

German Shepherd police dogs Pharaoh and Carter were among the first on the scene as suspects were arrested.

A machete was recovered from a garage roof and another from a car.




The teens, who have been charged with possession a knife, included computer engineer Batusjan Sothilingam, 18, of Aldbourn Road, Radford and unemployed Athies Balenthiran, 19, of Stadium Close, Holbrooks.

Unemployed Gajan Sivaguru, 18, of Morland Road, Holbrooks, and student Guled Awale, 19, of Wyrley Road, Radford were also arrested.


The group are due to appear before Coventry Magistrates’ Court on February 1.
