Here are some photographs by Observer chief photographer Jon Mullis of the celebratory scenes and visitors today as Coventry welcomed UK City of Culture 2021 judge Phil Redmond and arts minister John Glen.

They were at Fargo Village in at lunchtime, and at Coventry Cathedral this afternoon.
