BOSSES from a city sportswear brand showed Coventry South MP Zarah Sultana how to throw a few punches as they talked to her about their expansion plans.

BOXRAW has developed the world’s most comprehensive machine learning model for boxing training.

The company won the Queen’s Award for International Trade after being encouraged to enter by Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) Growth Hub.

BOXRAW’s overseas sales have grown by 335 per cent over the last three years and it has also been included in the Forbes 30 under 30 list.

Company founder Ben Amanna has also scooped the Midlands Young Entrepreneur of the Year at the Great British Entrepreneur Awards.

Ben spoke to Ms Sultana about his delight at winning the accolade and detailed the company’s plans to recruit for more than 200 jobs over the next few years and its plans –  submitted to Coventry City Council – to build a new home.

The proposals include redeveloping an existing garage to create a five-storey 2,603-square-metre office space with a fully equipped boxing gym.

Ben said: “It was great to teach Zarah a few boxing moves from a sport which continues to grow in popularity for men and women.

“This is a really exciting time for the business as we want to take it to the next level again and it is great to have so much support from the Growth Hub.”

Ms Sultana added: “I had a fantastic time learning some boxing moves with Ben, though I probably do still feel more confident sparring with political opponents in Parliament than landing punches in the ring.

“The success he’s built with BOXRAW is a testament to the determination and ingenuity of the people of Coventry and I am sure he will take it from strength to strength.”
