Lights, camera, action... Community film club gets rolling in Coventry

FANS of the silver screen in Stoke, Coventry, are getting their own community film club, thanks to an enterprising group of cinema enthusiasts.

The club, called StokeScreen, will show films roughly once a fortnight at Coventry & North Warwickshire Sports Club, Binley Road.

It’s the brainchild of John Gore, of South Avenue, Stoke Park, former film programmer at Warwick Arts Centre.

He spotted the need for a club when the Arts Centre closed its cinema for two years for a major refurbishment.

He’s worked with friends and neighbours to get the club under way, and the first season starts in November.

He says the films will have broad appeal but will probably be less well known than those showing in major cinemas.

The club operates a membership system – £20 each for a season of eight films – and members will be able to bring guests in at a special fee.
