A NEW initiative offering support and after-care for and by people with experience of alcohol and drug-related substance misuse is set to be launched.
The launch of the Coventry Recovery Community ‘Recovery Hub’ takes place with an open day between 1pm and 4pm on Monday (April 24).
Coventry Community Recovery has been granted £20,000 via Coventry City Council’s ‘Ten Ways To Wellbeing Fund’ – to establish the new city centre recovery hub, based at The Rose Community Centre, Hope Street, Spon End.
Established in 2013, Coventry Recovery Community (CRCCIC) is billed as a ‘progressive and innovative’ Social Enterprise (CIC), coordinating ‘user-led, peer-to-peer and person-centered support and connectivity within the substance misuse field.’
It says it has evolved primarily as a response to gaps in treatment service delivery, and has established a reputation in Coventry for support at the ‘cutting edge of substance misuse approaches’.
CRCCIC already facilitates a range of activities, acting as a hub for recovery-focused involvement in Coventry.
The hub will offer ‘user-led drop-ins and mutual aid, working directly with the most difficult and hard-to-engage clients’, in partnership with existing commissioned services.
CRCCIC’s board of directors is ten-strong, and each director has personal experience of substance misuse.
The board is steered democratically by the membership through monthly community meetings.
The service includes volunteer mentoring in seeking recovery, and working with families and friends.
CRCCIC also seeks to identify and challenge barriers to existing services; reduce stigma; carry out lobbying; provide recovery advocacy; deliver substance misuse related education; promote recovery visibility; and consult with local communities through community building workshops.
