Langar Aid receives brand new TV to celebrate the opening of new city centre base

A BRAND new 42″ TV has been donated to Langar Aid from a Coventry supermarket to celebrate the opening of its new city centre base.

The charity, which focuses on feeding homeless and deprived people in and around Coventry, received the donation from Tesco Cannon Park after approaching the supermarket for help in communicating how their projects impact the lives of local people.

Opened last month, the new Langar Aid base will use the television to showcase the charity’s work and display interactive course materials.

The donation is the next in the developing relationship between the charity and Tesco after Langar Aid signed up to be part of the Cannon Park store’s Community Food Connection scheme last year.

The scheme supports charities and community groups by linking them to Tesco stores via an app that allows store teams to alert them to surplus unsold food items available at the end of each day.

As a result of the food supplied by Tesco, Langar Aid volunteers have been able to focus their efforts on running successful community events while spreading awareness of the charity’s work locally and internationally.

A Langar Aid spokesperson said: “We’d like to thanks Tesco for its ongoing support.

“Their donations allow us to continue working to better the lives of people suffering from the consequences of man-made conflict and natural disasters across the globe.”

Leann Sullivan, customer experience manager at Tesco Cannon Park, said: “Our Community Food Connection scheme has been a huge help to so many charities.

“It’s really encouraging to see Langar Aid take the extra boost they’ve received from it and build upon it.”

Coun Marcus Lapsa, who has been instrumental in helping Langar Aid secure their new city centre location, said: “The relationship Langar Aid has with Tesco Cannon Park is second to none.

“It has enabled them to help many more homeless, isolated and vulnerable people in Coventry.

“Leann’s support has allowed us to take our work onto a different level.”
