A MAN has appeared in court following an attack on a police officer in Coventry.

A policeman was hit with a knuckle duster while on patrol in Hillfields on February 13.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Police said: “We’ve charged a man with wounding after one of our officers suffered nasty facial injuries in a knuckle duster attack.

“The officer was one of several on plain clothes patrols in the Hillfields area of Coventry, around Village Square, on Thursday night when he intervened in a fight.

“One man lashed out and punched him in the mouth, tearing open his top lip and chipping some teeth.”

Officers arrested a 23-year-old man, Kyro Christie at the scene, where a large bag of cocaine recovered.

Christie, of no fixed address, appeared at Warwick Magistrates Court on February 15, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon, possessing cocaine with intent to supply, and possessing heroin.

He was bailed with a curfew ahead of a court date at Warwick Crown Court on March 20.
