Knife-wielding clown-masked robber tasered at Coventry McDonald's

A SUSPECTED armed robber wearing a clown mask allegedly threatened staff members with a knife at a Coventry McDonald’s during an early morning hold-up – and was tasered by police.

The incident happened at 12.30am this morning (August 7) in the fast food branch at Alvis Retail Park on Holyhead Road.

West Midlands Police Force Response team tweeted: “#B-UNIT Coventry officers going for a quick comfort and coffee stop at McDonald’s are flagged down by a customer fleeing an armed robbery in progress inside the restaurant whereby offender in a clown mask held a knife to staff demanding money.

“Officer’s quickly enter and Taser is deployed resulting in the offender being detained and arrested.




“McDonald’s staff, officers & customers unharmed.

“Taser again proving a vital tool to apprehend violent offenders. #whataclown #arrested #Taser”


A 41-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody.

Detective inspector Kat Sibley said: “The officers were patrolling shortly after midnight and had stopped on a ‘refs’ break…they were in exactly the right place at the right time.

“There were fears he could injure staff or customers so was tasered and detained in the restaurant.

“Thankfully no-one was hurt and the man is now being questioned on suspicion of robbery and knife possession.”
