'Keep the Dream Alive' Wembley song is out, by 1987 'Go For It' City duo

COVENTRY City’s songwriting duo whose Go For It City 7-inch single became the fans’ anthem for FA Cup glory in 1987 have produced a new song for the first trip back to Wembley in 30 years.

Steve and Heather Taylor’s ‘Keep the Dream Alive’ – which can be seen on YouTube and Facebook and downloaded – contains the words ‘Go for it, let’s stick together, keep the dream alive.”

And Steve revealed they wanted a message that could resonate for more than one day in difficult times, in the hope of better days in future.

He said: “We have always been thrilled to hear the fans sing our song on the terraces especially after 30 years, its pretty amazing.

“After the Semi Final of the Checkatrade Trophy match this year our, phone, texts and social media went a bit mad with messages from fans and media people asking if we were going to write a new song for the Sky Blues to go with the new Wembley appearance.

“We think that maybe football superstition has something to do with it!

“We were thinking of doing something for the 30th anniversary of the FA cup win and our song ‘Go For it!’ anyway so we thought we would combine the two events.

“The last thing we wanted to do was to personalise the song to just one day! So we have a song full of memories and hope and optimism as a celebration of Coventry City FC.

“As we are propping up League One and relegation seems inevitable this has become bitter sweet!

“Heather and I are Sky Blue through and through and love Coventry City with a passion and the way we can express our feelings is through our songs.

“We have called it ‘Keep the Dream Alive’ because we all need to get together to help our wonderful club achieve success!

“We have been helped on this occasion by members of the social media and many Sky Blues fans who make up the band “Sky Blues Forever!”

“The message is clear, we have had things to celebrate in the past now, let’s go forward and make new memories.

“There are no politics in this song just good time memories and fun and a message to the players that we are behind them!”
