RESIDENTS and staff at Herald Lodge on Canley Road are the first from a Coventry care home to receive the Oxford-Astrazeneca Covid-19 vaccine.
Registered nurses visited the home to administer the first dose.
Many of the staff team had already received their initial dose after going to local immunisation hubs so the registered nurses were able to concentrate on vaccinating the residents quickly and efficiently.
Residents and their families had been eagerly awaiting the moment and were thrilled be top of the list.
Resident Yvonne North, said, ‘Everyone at Herald Lodge has been fantastic and I am so glad that the vaccination day all went smoothly and was very well organised.
“I feel privileged to be one of the first to have the Oxford vaccine, my vaccination was so quick and painless that I did not even know it had happened.
“I am so pleased the ball is finally rolling in eliminating this virus and I look forward to the future!.”
Herald Lodge care manager Angie Rose said: ‘This past year has been a real challenge for everyone, but we have always had faith that there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and the availability of a vaccine has been our continued hope that we will return to normal.
“The registered nurses who came to complete the vaccinations have been amazing and the process was fast and efficient.
The staff team have been inspirational throughout the pandemic – not just for the way they have worked together to protect their residents but also for how quickly and efficiently they have responded to numerous new guidelines over the last few months.
“I was so proud to see them get their vaccine earlier this month and taking all the necessary steps to keep their residents safe – it is a relief to know that our residents are protected from this virus as that has been the most important thing to us throughout.”
