I want to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!
It’s an incredible privilege to be the MP for Coventry South and this year I’ve had the pleasure of joining a huge number of community events, particularly celebrating our city’s rich cultural heritage.
But it’s been another tough year for our city. Our lives continue to be distributed by the pandemic, with loved ones lost and livelihoods hit hard.
But now we know that while we made sacrifices, Boris Johnson and the Conservative Party flouted the rules – holding Christmas parties, wine and cheese ‘work meetings’, and even laughing about it on camera. They think it’s one rule for them and another rule for the rest of us.
That’s why I’ve consistently challenged them in Parliament – from speaking out against the National Insurance tax hike and demanding the super-rich pay their fair share, to opposing the £20-a-week cut to Universal Credit and calling for minimum wage and public sector pay increases to match rising bills.
That’s what I was elected to do – to stand up for you – not to take second jobs like some MPs do – and that’s what I’ll continue to do, working to build the better, brighter future for Coventry.
