HUNDREDS of student paramedics are being urged to attend a West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) career event following the announcement of a major recruitment drive.
The service is recruiting 300 student paramedics across the Midlands region, including Coventry and Warwickshire, and a careers event has been set up in conjunction with Sandwell College and Jobcentre Plus.
Taking place at Sandwell College’s central campus on Saturday, November 26, the event is being held just days before all 300 vacancies become available across the region.
Queries regarding what qualifications are needed, fitness and driving are all answered at the event where there will also be the chance available to speak to student paramedics who will offer advice on the best way to secure a job.
Vacancies open on Monday (November 14), and WMAS chief executive officer Anthony Marsh said being a paramedic is an incredibly rewarding job.
He added: “The feeling of satisfaction you get when helping someone in their hour of need is something unique.
“The job fair is a fantastic opportunity for people to get the guidance they need to becoming a student paramedic, whatever stage of the journey you are at.”
Pauline Jones, Jobcentre Plus district provision manager, said: “These vacancies represent magnificent opportunities for our claimants.
“We will be actively marketing them and encouraging people to be in attendance on the day.”
The careers event at Sandwell College on Spon Lane takes place between 10am and 2pm and is open to all.
