Historic Coventry church to hold Advent Wreath Festival

Coventry Editorial 25th Nov, 2021   0

AN HISTORIC Coventry Church, which dates back to the mid 14th century, will be helping visitors count down to Christmas this weekend when it holds an Advent Wreath Festival.

People will be able to view the wreaths from 10am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday, November 27 and 28, at the church of St John the Baptist on Fleet Street.

The church, an icon of the city centre community since it was built, is now back to welcoming visitors after the past 18 months and is planning future events, including the centenary of the First World War Memorial Window next year.

Mike Polanyk, the church’s visitor liaison and communications officer, said: “This will be the first time such an event has been be held in the city and we hope it will prove an attraction for local people and visitors.”

The wreaths are themed and colour co-ordinated according to the sponsor or community group who made them and will be hung around the church.

There will be an Advent celebration, an Icon display, acoustic singing from two choirs, musical interludes, a festive raffle and a small number of stalls with selected foods and gifts throughout the weekend.

The church hall will also be open for refreshments on Saturday.
