Help needed for balloon-popping pogo stick charity record attempt in Broadgate

Coventry Editorial 9th Jul, 2015 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

A SELF-STYLED ‘mad fool’ charity fundraiser is to transform Coventry’s main square into a sea of balloons – for him to pop with a pogo-stick.

Stuart ‘Mad Fool’ Kettell will seek to pop 10,000 balloons – one every eight seconds – and break the world record in Broadgate next week.

But he is appealing for urgent help from the Coventry public to make it happen.

He wants to raise thousands of pounds to fight cancer and help the terminally ill – with charities Macmillan Cancer Support and Myton Hospice standing to benefit.

Astonishingly, Stuart last year pushed a Brussel sprout up Mount Snowdon with his nose, crawling on his hands and knees, to raise funds for the two charities.

Warwick-based Stuart has been fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support for 10 years and has completed many mad cap challenges, raising nearly £50,000 for charity.

Just a week ahead of his next fundraising challenge, Stuart has made an urgent plea for help in blowing up the 10,000 balloons.

Starting on Friday (July 17) and continuing into Saturday, Stuart will cover Broadgate with the five-inch balloons.

The physical challenge is even more demanding for Stuart this year because he has just been diagnosed with a leaking Mitral valve to his heart, leaving him short of breath.

He wants anyone who can spare half an hour or an hour on Thursday (July 16) to get in touch.

Stuart said:  ‘I’m really excited to complete the balloon challenge for Macmillan and Myton Hospice next week, but at the last minute we are short of people to blow up all the balloons needed!

“We need at least 10 volunteers there at any one moment in the day to make it happen.

“If we don’t get enough people helping then the challenge can’t happen! We urgently need more help.

“If you work locally, perhaps you can spare half an hour to blow up balloons, or maybe you can bring a bunch of office mates down in their lunch break to help us?’
