THE REGION’S first Go Ape forest adventure attraction could be on its way to Coombe Country Park as soon as April next year, Coventry City Council says.
Go Ape – a leading outdoor obstacle course company – allows budding adventurers the chance to fly down zip wires, leap off Tarzan swings, navigate obstacles and rope crossings high above the forest floor.
The company has submitted a planning application and the council says the move would create around 30 jobs and another exciting visitor destination.
Go Ape has tree top courses to suit children and adults alike.
Currently the nearest Go Ape is at Cannock Chase in Staffordshire.
Deputy council leader Abdul Khan said: “I’m delighted that Go Ape think Coombe could make a great location for their brand and style of adventure. They are a perfect fit.
“Coombe is a jewel in our crown and it’s rightly much loved by local people and visitors who all enjoy the natural beauty of the 500 acre site.
“Nestled in the trees it will offer high adventure and fun for children, young people and adults alike without impacting on the areas of the site that are enjoyed by bird watchers, nature enthusiasts and walkers.
“I can’t wait to see the plans I hope people take the chance to go along and find out more.”
Prior to submitting its planning application, Go Ape spoke with Natural England and Historic England to ensure the course complements the existing character of the park.
A team from Go Ape will be at Coombe Country Park between 12noon and 4pm on Friday July 6 and 9am to 4pm on Saturday July 7 to talk about the plans and answer questions.
Ben Davies, head of business development at Go Ape, said: “Go Ape is about encouraging people to live life adventurously and we are looking forward to bringing our Park Adventure experience to Coventry.”
