THE FAMILY of murdered Coventry teenager Daniel Kirkwood has launched a campaign and petition calling for the nightclub building where he was stabbed and killed to be bulldozed.
The online petition to Coventry City Council has been set up by sister Sophie Kirkwood.
Already, 1,000 people have signed the petition which demands the now closed city-centre venue is knocked down to prevent the constant reminder of 18-year-old Daniel’s death.
His killer Tobijah Thompson, 25, was jailed for 32 years and the club had its licence revoked.
The peition reads: “On the 15/3/15 Mothers Day we were to receive the devastating and life changing news that our boy Daniel 18, had been murdered, stabbed to death on a night out with friends.
News that turned our lives upside down, never to be the same again..
The full horror of the events of that evening came to light during a horrendous 9 week trial, seen on CCTV , the bouncers employed by the management hi-fived the guilty savages and greeted them like friends, pushed back the barrier , no searches are seen not to be taken place while, Daniel and his friends were throughly searched as seen on CCTV. If the said bouncers had done their job correctly that evening, we truly believe Dan would still be with us because the knife would have been found.
We attended a licensing hearing 3 weeks after Daniels death where the details of other horrifying incidents that had occurred at the club while that management team were in place , were relayed to the panel and his licence was removed immediately , he didn’t even turn up to give his own account of what occurred that evening.
We as Daniel Kirkwood’s family and now his voice want this repulsive ” club ” bulldozed to the ground as a mark of respect to Daniels beautiful memory.
There has been no interest into this place for over 2 years.
We as a family avoid going anywhere near there as it gives us a constant painful reminder of the horror that occurred there. And brings us back to day one , and every time there is a new story about this place Daniel’s picture is always included in the article , we think it should show a picture of the manager instead.
And we don’t feel he should profit one more penny from this place
Daniel will always be connected with this place, and we reiterate again we want it bulldozed down.
