DHL to create over 600 jobs at new Coventry Hub

Coventry Editorial 6th Jul, 2022   0

DELIVERY firm DHL announced that it will be building a brand new hub in SEGRO Park Coventry Gateway.

The new facility, which will be south of Coventry Airport, will be able to handle over 500,000 items a day and is expected to create more than 600 jobs.

These positions will include warehouse operatives, drivers, administration and management roles.

This new hub will take up nearly half of DHL’s planned investment of 560million euros (around £481.3million) across its UK e-commerce operation.

The hub will have secure bonded storage and customs capabilities which will help international e-commerce.

There will also be a 48-door cross-dock facility and state-of-the-art mechanisation, which will enable automatic sorting of mixed-sized and weight items through high-speed equipment.

The new building’s design has been made to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status, which will reduce its environmental impact through 7000-metre squared of solar panels, LED lighting and landscaping.

The site will have EV charging points for cars as well as LGV electric charging points and sustainable fuel capabilities.

DHL Parcel UK CEO Peter Fuller said: “This investment is a real demonstration of the excellent work our people and partners have delivered over the past two years to get us to the level of growth where major expansion is required to meet customer demand.

“E-commerce is going to continue to shape the world around us, this investment, along with the strength of the DHL brand and our leading approach to digitalization and sustainability will put us in a strong position to take advantage of market growth.”
