Daniel Pelka parents to appeal life sentences

THE MURDEROUS parents of schoolboy Daniel Pelka are set to appeal their sentences early next month, the Court of Appeal Criminal Division has confirmed.

Magdalena Luczak and Mariusz Krezolek were both jailed for life in August of last year for causing the death of the four-year-old, but will appeal their sentences on Tuesday, December 9.

Krezolek, Daniel’s step-father is also set to appeal his conviction of murder at the hearing.

The Holbrooks schoolboy was systematically tortured, starved, beaten, forced to eat salt and locked in a freezing bedroom by his parents before he was killed by a massive, final blow to the head in March 2012.

Daniel, who would have turned seven this year, was killed after agencies failed to spot his suffering and it was his murder that sparked a crisis in the children’s services department.

His death also led to the campaign to implement Daniel’s Law – legislation that would make the reporting of child abuse mandatory for professionals working with children.

The campaign, which initially saught 100,000 signatures of support, now boasts over 188,000 signatures.
