Creative Coventry youngster's Supertato scene is shortlisted in World Book Day art contest

A SCENE from the popular children’s story Supertato created by five-year-old Luca Patel has been shortlisted in a national World Book Day art competition.

The Wyken boy is down to the last ten and will find out tomorrow if he has won the overall title in the contest organised by toy retailer Bargain Max.

It challenged children from across the UK to create a heroic fictitious character from their favourite book using arts and craft materials that could be found at home.

Luca’s mum Poppy submitted via social media a picture of his scene which he made using real food, play food and pieces from his craft box.

He placed the characters in his play sand to show the part of the book where Evil Pea helps Supertato and the veggies when they are in trouble.

The winners will receive Bargain Max gift vouchers – ranging from £100 for first place to £10 for fourth and fifth.

A Bargain Max spokesperson said they were overwhelmed by the quality of entries into the competition.

“Thank you to everyone who entered, we really enjoyed seeing your book inspired creations.

“We hope this has got children excited for World Book Day and that it brought families a bit of fun through this lockdown.”
