A CHARITY which has worked tirelessly to help improve opportunities and prospects for thousands of young people in Coventry and across the region for almost 25 years has had its work recognised by the new West Midlands’ High Sheriff.

Louise Bennett OBE DL met with Rashid Bhayat, Founder and CEO of the Positive Youth Foundation, which works with 3,000 young people a year.

The majority of those being handed the help are among the least likely to find employment opportunities.

Rashid said: “We found quite a few synergies with Louise that we were certainly both keen to explore over the coming year.

“We would be keen to use our position as an established youth organisation and Louise’s prestigious new position to help further improve prospects for young people in Coventry and the surrounding region.”

Rashid also highlighted some of Coventry’s ongoing problems, including poverty and health inequalities between some of the city’s richest and poorest areas, and said he looked forward to working with Louise to help address all these issues.

Speaking after her visit Ms Bennett said: “The Positive Youth Foundation is proof of what can be achieved with hard work and determination to help others.

“The positive impact this organisation has had on so many lives since its formation in 1997 is incredible.

“As well as its work in Coventry the charity lends its expertise to benefit the youth sector nationally, helping to develop a framework and steer the future direction of the youth work sector.”
