Coventry woman arrested after fatal A46 crash

A WOMAN from Coventry has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash on the A46.

West Mercia Police is appealing following the crash yesterday morning (Tuesday, June 25).

A police spokesperson confirmed the woman, 23, remains under arrest but is currently in hospital.

An earlier police statement said: “We were called at 6.45am to a collision on the A46 Cheltenham Road near Beckford, involving a silver Vauxhall Vectra and a pedestrian who was tending to his vehicle.




“Sadly the pedestrian, a man in his 50s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin has been informed.

“Road closures are currently in place at the island for the A46/B4077 and by Long Carrant camping site. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes.


“Investigating officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident.

“If you have any information, please call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 83s of 25 June 2019.”

In an update they added: “A 23-year-old woman from Coventry has been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. She is currently in police custody.”
