Coventry volunteer Pru named as 'Platinum Champion'

COVENTRY’S Pru Porretta MBE has been named as a ‘Platinum Champion’ at The Big Jubilee Lunch at The Oval in London on June 5, with VIP guests including the Duchess of Cornwall and the Prince of Wales.

Pru impressed judges due to her role as founder and trustee of the Godiva Trust charity, which helps adults and children from Coventry’s diverse cultures to relate and reinterpret their heritage celebrations and make their city home.

She has also planted a peace tree and rose beds in Coventry along with other volunteers as a tribute to COVID victims.

The awards are a Jubilee project launched by the Royal Voluntary Service in honour of the Queens 70 year reign.

The winners were presented with a specially designed pin and certificate by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall.

The awards are presented to people for their dedication to volunteering, with Pru being named in the community category which also included the One Show’s Alex Jones.

Pru said: “It was an honour, and a wonderful surprise, to be presented with a Platinum Champions Award at such a special event, I feel very humbled.

“Volunteering is my passion, I do it because I love it and because I want to support people in my community.

“Donating your time to others is rewarding enough in itself, but I feel very humbled and grateful to be recognised as a Platinum Champion.”
