CHILDREN supported by local cancer charity Shine a Light will be the first to test-ride the Vintage Sleigh Ride at Coventry Transport Museum this Friday (November 29).
This year’s annual festivities at the museum include a walk-through winter wonderland experience where families will have the chance to play games while waiting for their turn on the ride, and a new toy shop experience with elves helping children to pick their own gifts before meeting Santa.
The Santa Experience and sleigh ride will officially open on Monday, December 2 at 11am with the last opportunity to see Father Christmas before Christmas on Monday, December 23.
Coventry and Warwickshire charity Shine a Light, founded in September 2016 by Sam Schoolar, a childhood cancer survivor, works to support families affected by cancer with home visits, counselling, coffee and activity sessions and day trips.
Sam said: “We are delighted for the children we support to be the first to experience this year’s sleigh ride and we’d like to thank the museum for the invitation.
“The attraction is an iconic part of Christmas in Coventry, so I’m sure the children are going to love seeing Father Christmas!
“We work hard to provide support for families going through a hard time, but another key aspect of our work are the day trips we offer as a distraction and something the whole family can enjoy – so this festive treat will be wonderful.”
Joy Corcec, Communications Officer at Culture Coventry, the charity running Coventry Transport Museum, said: “We are looking forward to welcoming families from Shine a Light to be the first to try the Sleigh Ride this year and experience our magical winter wonderland.”
Tickets cost £8 per child including a gift from Santa and entry for two accompanying adults for each child with additional adults, £1.50.
