Coventry trainees raise vital funds for foodbanks charity

TRAINEES at a Coventry educational organisation have put their best feet forward to raise money for a foodbank charity.

The team of eight fundraisers enrolled on the PET-Xi Traineeship walked 22 miles around Coombe Abbey to raise £687 for The Trussell Trust, which runs foodbanks across the country.

This total was then matched by the Westwood Business Park-based firm, which works with hundreds of schools across the UK to deliver GCSEs and GCSE equivalents through tailored programmes, to boost the total to £1,375.

The money will now be used to help with the development of The Trussell Trust’s regional distribution hub in Coventry.

PET-Xi joint-managing director, Fleur Sexton, said: “We saw dedication, commitment and courage from our fantastic group of young people and staff.

“We are absolutely thrilled with the amount of money that was raised from the event and want to say congratulations to the trainees.

“They all put in a lot of hard work and effort to organise and take part in the charity event and it really did pay off.

“The Trussell Trust carries out some important work and we are glad that all of the cash will be put to good use.”

The charity has a 400-strong network of food banks and provides a minimum of three day’s worth of emergency food and support to people experiencing hunger and poverty in the UK.

In 2015/16, the charity gave more than 1 million three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis.

Hugh McNeill, Coventry Foodbank manager, added: “We would like to say a big thank you to all of the trainees and team from PET-Xi.

“It is an absolutely amazing achievement and I know that they had some pretty poor conditions, so they did fantastic.

“All of the money will be used to help create our new regional distribution hub in Coventry, so it is going to come in extremely useful.”
