Coventry Editorial 27th Nov, 2014 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

POLICE have named the 19-year-old Coventry man arrested on suspicion of terror offences.

Zakariya Ashiq was arrested last week and will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court this afternoon.

The student from Foleshill was detained at Heathrow Airport at approximately 3pm on Thursday, November 20 as he disembarked a flight from Jordan.

He was arrested by officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit on suspicion of preparing for acts of terrorism.

The arrest was pre-planned and intelligence led, but the suspect did not pose any risk to the flight.

He has been held in custody in the West Midlands area.
