RESIDENTS in Spon End enjoyed a series of dance, music and spoken word workshops at the KOCO Community Centre last week in preparation for the ‘Home Spun Festival.’

Those in attendance were also able to enjoy songs using steel pans and Djembe and Samba drums, and they were able to have a go at several Zumba dance routines.

The workshops took place from Monday to Wednesday last week, with participants rotated around the three classes.

The sessions were led by a group of five local artists, with the workshops culminating in the final Jubilee showcase at Bethel Church on Saturday which featured live music for families across the area.

Home Spun festival producer Fareed Siddiqui said: “It’s been great spending time with local people during the Jubilee week where everyone had the chance to meet others and try some new creative experiences.

“It’s fantastic to see the community come together like this.

“We don’t see enough of the creative talents of the people in Spon End, so I hope this is just the start of more to come from the community.”
