Coventry steps up pitch to be new home for Channel 4

COVENTRY is ready to provide a new bespoke home for Channel 4, say council leaders.

The claim was made by Coventry City Council leader George Duggins, as Channel 4 bosses confirmed it will move 300 staff outside London in a part re-location.

The West Midlands mayor and combined authority has already bid for Channel 4, with options including Coventry and Birmingham.

Responding to yesterday’s announcement from Channel 4, Coun Jim O’Boyle, cabinet member for jobs and regeneration, said: “I welcome the news that Channel 4 has publicly acknowledged the need to increase their impact in the regions outside of London.

“We have been very clear that Coventry is the perfect location for business and we have expressed our willingness as a city to make Coventry a choice for Channel 4 whatever that involvement maybe.

“As a company that prides itself on cultural diversity and supporting innovation and creative talent I would love Channel 4 to come and visit us here in Coventry.

“We are just a short journey from London and we have the infrastructure and the buildings ready to cater for any relocation from London. I’d like to invite Channel 4 to bring their tape measures and check out the office space we have available on the doorstep of our main railway station.

“We are a young city poised to be the City of Culture 2021 so why wouldn’t Channel 4 not want to be part of it?

“I can’t think of a better fit – Channel 4 and the City of Culture all in our great city. We will certainly be continuing our efforts to spell out why Coventry is definitely the place to do business.”
