POPULAR restaurant Metropolis has been praised for its hospitality in supporting the 1,500 volunteer hosts during Coventry’s year as the UK City of Culture, writes Lucy Kesseler.

Located in the city centre, the restaurant often had coffee mornings and two brunches with workers beginning two hours early so hosts could have free use of the venue.

Discounts on all food was offered at the ‘unofficial hub’ when events were taking place and an additional menu was created to allow hosts to buy a meal for only £5.

The project, funded by the West Midlands Combined Authority, was intended to give the volunteers the skills to become a City Host while having them experience valuable life lessons along the way.

Volunteers were welcoming and helpful, providing navigation around the city and assisting anybody in need.

They also supported all of the city events.

Metropolis general manager Nathan Chadderton said: “We are a very proud supporter of Coventry UK City of Culture and all of the volunteers who have given up their time to help ensure its success.”
