Coventry residents urged to organise street parties and Big Lunches for Queen's Platinum Jubilee before council's licence deadline

PEOPLE across Coventry are being urged to organise street parties in their neighbourhoods for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

But those putting one together as part of ‘The Big Jubilee Lunch’ need to apply to the city council for any relevant licences or permissions by 5pm on Wednesday, May 16.

Jon Hogan, the authority’s head of events, said: “This would enable council colleagues in the Highways Team, to assess any applications for road closure and suitable traffic management to make any events and activities safe for all.”

Coun Abdul Salam Khan, the city council’s Cabinet Member for Events, added: “Momentous occasions like Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee deserve special celebrations.

“Along with the other activities we have planned in the city, getting together with the community and neighbours is a great way of helping mark the Queen’s 70 years of service to the country and its people.”

People wanting to find out about holding a street party should visit coventry.gov.uk/streetparty or e-mail [email protected] for more information.

Those wanting guidance on licensing, food safety or any other areas around street party should visit coventry.gov.uk/licensing or coventry.gov.uk/food-safety/food-safety-team for further details. Alternatively, e-mail licensing [email protected] or the food safety team – [email protected]
