A MAJOR regeneration on the site of the historic former Daimler car factory has taken a big step forward.

Rainier Developments Limited has secured a deal to bring forward new plans for Sandy Lane Business Park and Sandy Lane Industrial Estate.

The former Daimler site, north of the Coventry Canal basin, has already been earmarked for regeneration by the City Council.

It has been owned by The Wigley Group since 2006 which transformed the site’s derelict Daimler Powerhouse into a £2.4 million creative hub.

Rainier Developments has said the creative hub would be retained in any future proposals.

Bosses added a planning application on plans for the site would be made ‘in due course.’

Proposals are likely to include a mix of uses, including new homes and commercial space canal-side.

Richard Mees, Chief Executive at Rainier Developments Limited, said: “Sandy Lane is one of Coventry’s most exciting regeneration opportunities. We will bring forward proposals which will enhance the local economy and provide value for the city and community.

“Given the changes to market conditions since plans were first published, we will be reviewing every aspect of the approach and submitting a new planning application for this prominent brownfield site.”
